Angel Immersion Retreat - Nov. 4-6, 2011 - Wintergreen, VA

I've already been asked by one person what the food options will be and whether they will accommodate her gluten-free diet. Here's what I told her:

Saturday we'll have continental breakfast at the house. For all subsequent meals you'll be going to one of the resort's restaurants. When I buy the food for breakfast and all the snacks, I'll definitely keep in mind the need for gluten-free (and any other needs that people tell me about). As for the restaurants, I do not know if they are experienced with gluten-free cooking. I'm aware that even if the entree is "grilled chicken breast," for example, you'll still need to mention your special diet so that the cook doesn't dredge it in flour. (OK, maybe not the best example - who would put flour on grilled chicken? The point being sometimes it's hidden.) I will ask Lori to follow up with Wintergreen about whether they can handle gluten-free cooking in their restaurants.

If this leaves cause for concern, you might want to keep in mind that we'll have a full kitchen at our disposal in the house. You can bring your own food to store and prepare in the kitchen. That way you can control what goes into your food and feel safe to enjoy it.

Any other dietary concerns? Please post a comment here.

I was able to set up online registration yesterday. You can access it by going to the Registration page.

And people are using it! Some of the rooms are already full - we have only 3 private rooms and 1 shared room left in the retreat home, so register soon.

Extend Your Stay 08/02/2011

You have the option to extend your stay at Wintergreen. If you'd like to arrive a night early or stay a night longer, you can book a lodge room for $99/night. Note that this is not the house we'll be staying in but a room in the main lodge of the resort.

Things to see and do in the area if you stay longer include golf or spa treatments on the resort along with area wineries, a brewery, and a distillery (featured in the Washington Post's Going Out Guide on Sunday, July 31, 2011).

I got to tour the lodge rooms when I visited the Wintergreen and they're actually quite nice. The floorplan is a one-bedroom suite with full kitchen, dining area, and living room. Each lodge room is privately owned and uniquely decorated to the tastes of the owner. A few have lofts.

Updates & FAQs 08/02/2011

After creating this website I realized there might be things to add or questions to answer.

As people contact me with questions about the retreat and I think others may have the same question, I will blog about it here. Also, if you have question you are welcome to comment on this post and I will address it for everyone.

I will also blog any other relevant updates during the registration period. Don't worry, official communications about what to bring, etc., will be sent directly to your inbox.
